The Story Behind Frenchies
Frenchies was born on a movie set in Hollywood.
Our founder, Elena Talan, is a professional hairstylist who spent years working on film, television, fashion, and red-carpet shoots. She kept running into the same problem: there was no hair pin on the market that actually did its job. Bobby pins slipped. U-pins poked. Everything scratched the scalp. Every time a model, actress, or bride moved, the hairstyle started falling apart — and Elena would be on her hands and knees picking up pins off the floor between takes.
So she engineered something better.
The Flocked Fiber Breakthrough
Elena partnered with a specialty textile manufacturer to develop a proprietary flocked fiber coating that she could apply to a classic French-style U-pin. The velvet-soft finish grips hair through micro-friction instead of tension — meaning the pin stays exactly where you put it, without squeezing, scratching, or slipping.
The first version of Frenchies went straight onto set. Hairstylists stopped losing pins. Styles held through twelve-hour shoots. Word traveled fast.
Within two years, Frenchies were being used backstage at New York Fashion Week, on bridal parties at the best hotels in Los Angeles, in ballet companies, and in the kits of the top celebrity hairstylists in the business. Our pins have been used on covers for Vogue, editorials for Elle and InStyle, and features in Glamour.

We went through dozens of iterations to land on shades that genuinely blend rather than stand out.
